The Golden State Warriors continue to be one of the hottest teams in the NBA (National Basketball Association). They won more games than any team in NBA history in a single season and earned trips to the last two NBA Finals. Head coach Steve Kerr regrets not only the pain of missing the majority of this memorable run, but also the excruciating pain radiating through his back. Coach Kerr’s pain increased so much over the course of the past few seasons that he cannot even bear the discomfort enough to sit on the bench and watch his team make history. Back pain impacts every aspect of his daily life dating back to Kerr’s choice to undergo invasive back surgery less than two years ago. The terribly poor rate of successful back surgeries impacts NBA stars and regular employees all the same.
Coach Steve Kerr recently shared a statement with reporters regarding his experience, saying, “I can tell you if you’re listening out there, if you have a back problem, stay away from surgery. I can say that from the bottom of my heart, rehab, rehab, rehab. Don’t let anyone get in there.”
Avoiding spinal surgery largely depends on which healthcare provider first sees a patient dealing with a back problem. A 2012 medical study showed that workers with back pain experienced a greater risk of surgery if they first seek care from a surgeon. Almost 43% of subjects who visited a surgeon as a primary care provider chose elective surgery within three years of their first visit. Only 1.5% of subjects choosing Chiropractic care needed surgery in that same window of time.
Avoiding and preventing spinal surgery proves a necessity when understanding the long-term effects and poor success rates for people who choose spinal surgery to alleviate back pain. The benefits of Chiropractic care still go well beyond alleviating back pain but begin with an understanding that a healthy back and spine directly impact the health of the entire body. Chiropractic maximizes potential by improving the health of the spine and nervous system for those with or without back pain. People want the safest, least invasive, and least expensive approach to healthcare. Facts, statistics, and research continually prove that Chiropractic care provides the best course of action in each of these categories when dealing with musculoskeletal problems.
